All of our locks offer high levels of security but there are different features to consider so read on to work out which option is best for you. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the options, please contact us by phone +44 1494 778 787 or email info@urbanfront.co.uk.
The 5-point lock
The facts: All our doors feature 5-point locking as standard. This means that 5 shoot bolts give extra strength and security across the whole length of the door. Our doors meet Secured by Design standards and have been tested to LPS1175 for commercial security.
Need to know: This lock can work with a lever or a pull handle back-to-back. However, with either handle, if you come in through the door and close it behind you, it will be on the latch but not locked.
Is it secure enough? Yes, this is a high standard of locking tested to residential and commercial standards. If you like to keep things simple, this is a great choice.
The mechanical self-lock
The facts: The mechanical self-lock is an optional extra featuring a 3-point locking system. In terms of security, it is made to the same standards and security ratings as the 5-point locking system.
Need to know: This lock mechanically self-locks when you close the door and it remains locked until you reopen it. This option is best used with a pull handle.
Worth upgrading? If you prefer to be sure that the door is locked automatically so you don’t have to think about it, then yes. When heading out, you don’t have to use the key to engage all the bolts, which makes it a good upgrade option for extra peace of mind.
The motorised locking system
The facts: Motorised locking is a 3-point locking system activated by an electric supply and which needs an entry system, a fob, a keypad, or a fingerprint system, to function. This system allows you to choose Fail Secure or Fail Safe, which means the door either remains locked or open if there is a cut in the electric supply.
Need to know: This system automatically locks the door, including engaging all the bolts when the door is closed, and it beeps to confirm that it’s locked. From the inside, you only need to twist the thumb-turn to open the door (or install an activation electrical push button). From the outside, you either use your entry system or you can override it by using your key. No cables are visible as we cable through the door and frame, but you will need an electrician to connect to an electric supply.
Worth upgrading? Yes, especially if you want extra security to include an entry system, and if you are connecting everything in your home to a smart system. It’s also useful for commercial buildings and large residential buildings with multiple users or residents.
The fingerprint entry system with motorised locking
The facts: The fingerprint entry system allows you to open your door without keys either using your finger or with the smart app from anywhere in the world (as long as you have Wi-Fi). It works alongside the motorised locking option mentioned above and the information about that system applies here too.
Need to know: You can have up to 80 fingerprints saved in the system.
Worth upgrading? It depends on your lifestyle and preferences. Many of our clients choose fingerprint entry because it means they don’t need to carry a key. It’s very practical if you have children or teenagers as it’s difficult to lose a finger! There is also the option to set timed entry for housekeepers or cleaners and the ability to open the door remotely can be useful. Clients sometimes worry about a power cut but if that happens you can override it by using your key to enter at any time or install an additional backup battery supply (UPS System).
